Given her 2012 Best Actress Tony nomination for Bonnie & Clyde, Laura Osnes must have secretly expected to take home the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Favorite Actress in a Musical, right? Wrong. “Oh, you should have seen my face!” the charming star exclaimed after the awards show. “I was completely surprised. My heart wasn’t even pounding that much [when the category was announced] because I didn’t think I had a chance.”
Celebrating her win over post-show meatballs, Osnes said, “I am so honored. I’m actually surprised at how moved I was. This means a lot to me!” Part of Osnes’ happiness stems from the realization that fans really did care about Bonnie & Clyde. “It didn’t last long,” she says of the musical, “and yet we’re still being remembered throughout this awards season, different people in different ways. It’s so rewarding to know that we had an impact while we were here.”
The famously G-rated actress laughed when asked about the trash-talk by presenters and other winners during the Audience Choice Awards show. “Hey, Bonnie & Clyde was definitely PG 13 or R!” she cried. “I had a ball tonight. I wasn’t expecting to have so much fun, but I had a great time.”
