Melanie Chisolm, the Brit pop star best known as “Mel C” of the Spice Girls, will join this summer's revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar at London’s 02 Arena, according to the Telegraph. She will star as Mary Magdalene, a role previously reported to be played by X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger.
Chisolm will be joined on stage by the previously reported Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot, as well as British radio personality Chris Moyles as King Herod. The lead role of Jesus will be chosen via Lloyd Webber’s latest reality casting show, Superstar.
Jesus Christ Superstar, based very loosely on the Gospel's account of the last week of Jesus' life, was first produced on Broadway in 1971. The currently running Broadway revival features Paul Nolan, Josh Young and Chilina Kennedy as Jesus Christ, Judas Iscariot and Mary Magdalene, respectively.
