Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman will star in the big screen adaptation of John Le Carre’s best-selling spy novel A Most Wanted Man, according to Deadline.com. Hoffman recently earned a Tony nomination for his performance as Willy Loman in Mike Nichols’ starry revival of Death of a Salesman. The film will be directed in Germany by accomplished music video director Anton Corbijn. No other casting has been announced yet though, according to le Carre’s website, Rachel McAdams may co-star as Annabel.
Set in present-day Hamburg, Hoffman will star as the chief of a German spy operation attempting to discover the identity of a mysterious half-Chechen, half-Russian man. The man, who has turned up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, is searching for the fortune of his late Russian father.
Hoffman received Tony nominations for Long Day’s Journey Into Night and True West. He won an Academy Award for Capote. His additional film credits include Almost Famous, Magnolia, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Moneyball and Doubt.
