CW has ordered the new TV drama Arrow, starring Anything Goes alum Colin Donnell, according to Entertainment Weekly. Written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, Arrow is a modern-day retelling of the DC Comics character Green Arrow, starring Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. Directed by David Nutter, Arrow is set to air on Wednesday nights on CW this fall. No premiere date has been announced.
Arrow is the story of Oliver (Amell), a wealthy playboy who creates the secret persona of Arrow. He uses archery and martial arts to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society and restore Starling City to its former glory. Donnell plays Oliver’s well-to-do best friend, Tommy Merlyn. Additionally, Arrow stars Kathleen Gati, David Ramsey and Susanna Thompson.
"[Arrow] is very real, very grounded,” Donnell recently told Broadway.com of the series. “[It’s] not just comic book-y. It’s a mixture of Batman Begins meets Jason Bourne from The Bourne Identity.”
Donnell has appeared on Broadway in Jersey Boys and Anything Goes. He recently starred in the Encores! production of Merrily We Roll Along. Donnell’s film and TV credits include L.A. Noire and Pan Am.
