Complete casting has been announced for the previously announced stage version of horror classic The Exorcist, directed by John Doyle and adapted by John Pielmeier from William Peter Blatty’s novel. Screen stars Brooke Shields and Richard Chamberlain take on the iconic roles of Chris MacNeil and Father Merrin, respectively, in the world premiere play. Performances begin at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on July 3, with opening night set for July 11.
Joining Shields and Chamberlain on stage are Broadway vet David Wilson Barnes (The Lieutenant of Inishmore) as troubled young priest Father Damien Karras, Tony Award nominee Harry Groener (Crazy For You, Oklahoma!) as Chris’ charismatic director Burke Dennings and Emily Yetter as young Regan MacNeil. The cast also includes Tony nominee Stephen Bogardus (Love! Valour! Compassion!) as Dr. Strong, Manoel Felciano (Sweeney Todd) as Father Joe, Tom Nelis (Enron) as Dr. Klein and Roslyn Ruff (Fences) as Carla.
This story of the battle between faith and evil deals with the demonic possession of a young girl, and her mother’s attempts to win her back through an exorcism conducted by two priests.
