Peter and the Starcatcher star Christian Borle is cracking up audiences at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre as the over-the-top yet highly feared pirate Black Stache. Theatergoers took note of his hilarious turn, and on May 13 Borle earned the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Favorite Funny Performance. Borle was ill and unable to attend the ceremony, but he was showered with praise in an acceptance speech made by his co-stars, Celia Keenan-Bolger and Adam Chanler-Berat. Broadway.com caught up with the Starcatcher funnyman and were glad to find out he's now feeling much better.
“I was very disappointed that I wasn’t there,” Borle told Broadway.com. “I heard it was quite an evening! But I was thrilled and honored and happy. It’s a handsome award!” So did Borle approve of Keenan-Bolger and Chanler-Berat’s touching acceptance speech? “I was very, very moved by that,” said Borle. “We love each other sincerely.”
Borle’s health is back on the mend thanks to Han’s Honey Loquat syrup, but with Tony Awards right around the corner, he’s upping the ante to make sure he stays healthy. “In the swirlyness of this crazy, crazy time, one must take care of oneself,” Borle said with a laugh. “The play’s the thing!”
