This TV season, some of Broadway most popular actors will make the transition from stage to small screen in a bevy of exciting, new TV shows. As excitement builds, Broadway.com asked readers which new series featuring a Broadway veteran they are most excited to start watching. The results are in, and two new comedies lead the pack. 1. Bunheads – 43%
Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster has conquered the Broadway stage starring in musicals ranging from Little Women to Shrek and Anything Goes, and now it’s time to see Sutton take on TV. In her new ABC Family series Bunheads, Foster plays a former Vegas showgirl teaching dance lessons in a small California town. Here’s to hoping we see many more flashy showgirl costumes! Bunheads begins its run June 11, but readers can watch the whole first episode on Broadway.com now!
2. The New Normal – 29%
Ryan Murphy has created can’t-miss TV shows like Glee and American Horror Story and his latest venture, The New Normal, sounds like another potential hit. The show stars Book of Mormon Tony nominee Andrew Rannells and Broadway vet Justin Bartha as a gay couple trying to have a baby via surrogate. The series also features the hilarious Tony winner Ellen Barkin and the outrageous Real Housewives cast member NeNe Leakes. 3. The Newsroom - 7%
Let’s face it, HBO makes great television, and when you pair the hit cable network with Oscar and Emmy winner Aaron Sorkin, you can expect a fireworks! Sorkin's new series, Newsroom, chronicles the behind-the-scenes events at a fictional cable news channel and features Jeff Daniels, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Sam Waterston and Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr. The ensemble drama premieres on June 24.
