For a brief period in the 1940s, eccentric book editor George Davis rented a dilapidated boarding house at 7 Middagh Street in Brooklyn Heights. The house became home to a motley crew of artists, including Carson McCullers, W. H. Auden, Benjamin Britten and Gypsy Rose Lee. Now this bohemian commune of sorts, February House, has come to life on the stage of the Public Theater in a new musical with music and lyrics by Gabriel Kahane and a book by Seth Bockley, starring Kacie Sheik, Julian Fleischer, Stanley Bahorek, Kristen Sieh and more. Broadway.com headed to the downtown venue to chat with director Davis McCallum and some of the actors bringing these artistic icons to life.
