A slew of Broadway stars will join President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton at the New Amsterdam Theatre on June 4 for the concert event Barack on Broadway. The evening will feature performances by Patti LuPone, Angela Lansbury, Audra McDonald, James Earl Jones, Stockard Channing, Cheyenne Jackson, Megan Hilty, Mandy Patinkin, Jeffrey Wright, Bobby Cannavale, Norbert Leo Butz, Kerry Butler, Nina Arianda and playwright Tony Kushner.
Directed by George C. Wolfe and featuring script consultation by John Guare, the evening is hosted by Margo Lion, Thomas Schumacher, Michael David, Lauren Mitchell, Roger Berlind, Paul Boskind. Rob Berman will serve as musical director.
The Obama family has been frequent supporters of Broadway in recent years. They held a special event at Sister Act last summer, hosted a Broadway-themed concert at the White House in 2010 and have attended shows including Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Memphis and The Addams Family. Clinton also recently saw the musicals Anything Goes, Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark and Next to Normal.
