Inception and The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is planning to appear in the stage musical Harold's Harem, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail. Hardy describes the show, which is created by screenwriter Brett C. Leonard, as a "crazy piece of work." Hardy would play Harold, a character he calls "a cross between two guys Robert De Niro has played in Martin Scorsese films, The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver." No information on when or where the show would be produced has been announced.
"It would be a serious piece," Hardy further explained of Harold's Harem, "more in the vein of the Civil Rights breakthrough musical Caroline or Change." That musical, which featured a book and lyrics by Tony Kushner and score by Jeanine Tesori, briefly played Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre in 2004 and earned six Tony Award nominations before transferring to London's National Theatre. "Think of Taxi Driver as a Bollywood movie and Harold's Harem is somewhere all those—The King of Comedy, Taxi Driver and Bollywood — meet," Hardy said.
Hardy will be seen as Bane in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. His other film credits include Inception, Lawless, This Means War, Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Rocknrolla, Black Hawk Down and Marie Antoinette.
