Second Stage Theater will add Jason Robert Brown’s two-person musical The Last Five Years to its previously announced 2012-2013 season. Brown will direct the production in Spring 2013, marking the first time the show has been produced in New York since its off-Broadway premiere in 2002. No casting has been announced.
The Last Five Years tells the emotionally powerful story of Jamie and Cathy, two twenty-something New Yorkers who dive head-first into a marriage fueled by the optimism that comes with finding “the one.” But in a city where professional and personal passions collide and only the strongest relationships survive, navigating the waters of love and matrimony can sometimes prove too much. Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott created the roles in the show's original production.
Second Stage Theater’s 2012-2013 season includes the world premiere of Jon Kern’s comedy Modern Terrorism, or They Who Want to Kill Us and How We Learn to Love Them and the New York premiere of this year’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Water by the Spoonful, by Quiara Alegria Hudes. One additional production will be announced in the coming weeks.
