Tony Award winner Denis O’Hare will star as The Baker in the upcoming Shakespeare in the Park production of Stephen Sondheim’s fairy tale musical Into the Woods. O’Hare joins previously announced two-time Tony winner Donna Murphy as the Witch and three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams as The Baker's Wife. The Public Theater production, directed by Timothy Sheader, will run from July 23 to August 25 at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park.
The cast of Into the Woods will also feature the previously announced Jack Broderick (Narrator), Gideon Glick (Jack), Cooper Grodin (Rapunzel's Prince), Ivan Hernandez (Cinderella's Prince/Wolf), Tina Johnson (Granny), Josh Lamon (Steward), Jessie Mueller (Cinderella), Laura Shoop (Cinderella's Mother) and Tess Soltau (Rapunzel).
O'Hare received a Tony Award for Take Me Out and an additional nomination for Assassins. His other Broadway credits include Elling, Inherit the Wind, Sweet Charity, Major Barbara, Cabaret and Racing Demon. On TV, O'Hare earned raves for his portrayal of murderous vampire Russell Edgington on True Blood, as well as memorable roles in The Good Wife and American Horror Story.
