Spice up your life! The previously announced Spice Girls musical, Viva Forever, will receive its world premiere at London’s Piccadilly Theatre with previews beginning in November 2012, according to The Daily Mail. Produced by Judy Craymer (Mamma Mia), directed by Paul Garrington and written by Absolutely Fabulous alum Jennifer Saunders, the musical is expected to open at the West End venue in December. The theatre is currently occupied by Ghost: The Musical. No word yet on if Ghost will close or move theatres. No casting has been announced at this time.
Viva Forever tells the story of a mother and daughter, with a television talent show as a backdrop. The musical will feature 16 songs from the iconic '90s girl group's catalogue including “Wannabe,” “The Lady is a Vamp,” “Say You’ll Be There” and “Mamma.” Auditions for the world premiere begin in June and rehearsals are slated to start in September.
The Spice Girls musical will feature choreography by Lynne Page, set and costume design by Peter Mackintosh and orchestrations by Martin Koch.
The Spice Girls—Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice)—formed in 1994. With hits like "Stop," "2 Become 1" and "Spice Up Your Life," they went on to become one of the most successful girl groups of all time.
