Jerry O’Connell, who recently starred in Broadway’s Seminar, will play Herman Munster in NBC’s The Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The role of Herman Munster was originally played on the '60s CBS sitcom by Fred Gwynne. The pilot will be produced and directed by Bryan Singer. The cast also features Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster and Mason Cook as O’Connell’s werewolf son, Eddie Munster. No further casting has been announced at this time.
Hatched from the mind of Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, Mockingbird Lane will be an edgier, darker take on the classic '60s sitcom. The show will explore the origins of Herman and Lily (originally played on TV by Follies’ Yvonne De Carlo) and how they ended up at the house at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
O'Connell made his Broadway debut in Theresa Rebeck’s Seminar. He is best known for films such as Stand By Me, Jerry Maguire and Scream 2. His other film and TV credits include The Defenders, Crossing Jordan, Yours Mine & Ours, The '60s, Can't Hardly Wait, Man About Town and Sliders.
