Rowan Atkinson Set for Quartermaine’s Terms at West End's Wyndham's Theatre

British stage and screen favorite Rowan Atkinson is set to headline a West End revival of Simon Grey’s 1987 play Quartermaine’s Terms, according to U.K.’s Daily Mail. The production will tour to the Theatre Royal in Brighton on January 8 and hit the Theatre Royal in Bath on January 19 before landing at the West End. Directed by Richard Eyre, the production will begin performances January 23 at the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre and run through April 13. No additional casting has been announced.

Set in the 1960s, Quartermaine’s Terms is the story of seven teachers at a Cambridge school that teaches English to foreign students. St. John Quatermaine (Atkinson) is a friendly but inadequate teacher who grapples with his own thoughts of confusion as he helps sort out his colleagues’ problems.

Atkinson is best known as Mr. Bean, a character he developed that was later turned into a TV series and subsequent films, including Bean, Mr. Bean’s Holiday and Unseen Bean. In 1981, Atkinson wrote and starred in his own Broadway sketch special, Rowan Atkinson at the Atkinson. The actor’s West End credits include Rowan Atkinson in Revue and Oliver! His aditional film credits include Johnny English, Love Actually and The Lion King.
