The Rock of Ages film adaptation earned an estimated $15 million during its first weekend in theaters, according to Deadline.com. The film finished in third place at the U.S. box office, behind Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Prometheus, both holdovers from the previous week. Playing in 3,470 theaters across the country, Rock of Ages didn't reach Deadline's industry expectations, which had predicted the $75 million budgeted movie to open with around $27 million.
Directed by Adam Shankman, the Rock of Ages film features Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti and Diego Boneta.
The original Tony-nominated Rock of Ages musical continues to run at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre. For Broadway.com's take on the Rock of Ages movie, click here.
