Jon Bernthal (TV's The Walking Dead) and John Pollono will star in the New York premiere of Small Engine Repair. Written by Pollono and directed by Jo Bonney, the production will be the third and final production in MCC’s 2012-2013 mainstage season. Small Engine Repair will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre from May 16 through June 23, 2013. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
In Small Engine Repair, Frank, Swaino and Packie, buddies since high school, now past their prime, meet off-hours in Frank’s out-of-the-way repair shop under cloudy circumstances that only Frank has a handle on. Enter Chad, a plugged-in preppy college jock, whose arrival ignites an explosion of long-simmering resentment and rage in this taut, twisty, comic thriller.
The production joins the previously announced plays Don’t Go Gentle and Really Really as part of MCC’s 2012-2013 season. Small Engine Repair first premiered in 2011 at the Rogue Machine Theatre in Los Angeles. The play won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for Playwriting as well as an Ovation Award and three Garland Awards.
