This summer, two-time Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale will head to San Francisco to work with legendary director Woody Allen on his untitled new film. Although Allen is notorious for keeping the details of his movies hush-hush, further casting of the film includes Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper and Alec Baldwin. Broadway.com recently caught up with Cannavale to hear his thoughts about working with the Oscar winner for the first time.
“It’s ironic that I’m not working in New York with him,” Cannavale joked. “I never leave New York, and I gotta go to San Francisco to work with Woody Allen?” Despite having to leave his hometown, the Motherf**er With the Hat alum is thrilled to be working with one of his favorite directors. “I’m a huge Woody Allen fan,” the actor said. “Who’s not a Woody Allen fan?” The actor is looking forward to seeing how the director of Hannah and Her Sisters, Annie Hall and Midnight in Paris works on set. “I’m going to be shooting a nice, long time with him,” Cannavale said. “It’s a dream come true.”
Cannavale will head to San Francisco in August—and even he's not sure what to expect on set. “I don’t know exactly who I’m working with,” Cannavale said. “You don’t get to read the whole script, you just read your scenes, so I couldn’t even tell you what it’s about…Just that it’s funny!” Until the film is released, the actor is prepared to keep his mouth shut. “They’re very secretive about it,” he insisted. “Penalty of death if I say anything!”
Allen's latest film, To Rome with Love, hits theaters June 22.
