Two-time Tony nominee Brian d’Arcy James and Emma Hunton will star in an industry reading of the new rock musical Something As Big As This on July 2. Written by Next to Normal alum Asa Somers, the reading will be directed by fellow Next to Normal vet Louis Hobson. Mary-Mitchell Campbell and Scott Wasserman will serve as musical directors.
Based on a real crime case, Something As Big As This is the story of three disparate lives and and how they become intertwined one fateful night in the dark corners of Central Park. In addition to d’Arcy James and Hunton, the cast will include Joyce van Patten (Rabbit Hole), Jenn Colella (Urban Cowboy), Preston Sadleir (Next to Normal), Kingsley Leggs (Sister Act), Benjamin Schrader (The Book of Mormon), Wayne Duvall (O Brother, Where Art Thou?), F. Michael Haynie (Carrie), Jared Zirelli (Lysistrata Jones), Dennis Holland (The Music Man), Elyse Knight and Naama Potock.
D’Arcy James earned Tony nominations for Sweet Smell of Success and Shrek the Musical. His additional Broadway credits include Next to Normal, Blood Brothers, Carousel, Titanic, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Apple Tree and Time Stands Still. His film and TV credits include Smash, The Big C, Ghost Town and Game Change. Hunton appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening. She is currently starring in Rent off-Broadway, and has appeared on tour in Next to Normal.
