PBS Arts Summer Festival will spotlight Tony nominee John Leguizamo in Tales From a Ghetto Klown. The behind-the-scenes documentary follow Leguizamo as he prepared to bring his solo show Ghetto Klown to Broadway, followed by a run in his native Colombia. The hour-long documentary will air on PBS on July 13 at 9 PM.
Following his previous solo shows Mambo Mouth, Freak, Sexaholix and Spic-o-Rama, Ghetto Klown traces Leguizamo's journey from a young aspiring actor in New York City to his extensive Hollywood career in films like Carlito's Way, Executive Decision, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and more.
Ghetto Klown opened on Broadway on March 22, 2011. The show closed on July 10 after 95 performances. The production earned Leguizamo a Drama Desk Award and Outter Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. The show then played Los Angeles’ Ricardo Montalban Theater in September 2011 before moving to London’s Charing Cross Theatre in October of 2011.
