Broadway vets Julia Murney and Jacquelyn Piro Donovan will join the cast of off-Broadway’s Closer Than Ever at the York Theatre Company. Donovan is scheduled to begin performances August 3, and Murney will join the cast beginning August 6. Donovan and Murney will succeed Christiane Noll and Jenn Colella, respectively, who will both depart the production to begin rehearsals for Chaplin on Broadway.
Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire’s Closer Than Ever tells the story of love, friendship, security and happiness, and how to hold on to those essentials in a world that pulls us in a hundred directions at once. The York Theatre Company production originally opened June 5, starring George Dvorsky, Sal Viviano, Noll and Colella. The production is currently scheduled to run through August 25. Closer Than Ever originally opened off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre in 1989.
Murney appeared on Broadway in Wicked and Lennon. Her additional New York credits include The Wild Party, The Vagina Monologues, A Class Act, Saved, Crimes of the Heart, Queen of the Mist and Time and Again. Her film and TV credits include Brothers and Sisters, Ed, Sex and the City, 30 Rock and NYPD Blue.
Donovan’s Broadway credits include Les Miserables and Miss Saigon. She has appeared off-Broadway in I Remember Mama, Suburb, Under the Bridge, The Ark and Have a Nice Life. Her film and TV credits include King Lear and Another World.
