As previously rumored, Cheyenne Jackson and Henry Winkler are now set to return to Broadway in The Performers, a new comedy by David West Read. Directed by Evan Cabnet, The Performers also stars Ari Graynor (Relatively Speaking, Brooklyn Boy), Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange, Shrek) and Jenni Barber (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). The production will begin previews October 23 at the Longacre Theatre. Opening night is set for November 14. Further casting to be announced shortly.
The Performers follows two high school friends (Jackson and Breaker) who reconnect at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas. When the night takes an unexpected turn and relationships are threatened, Chuck Wood (Winkler), the hardest-working man in the business, steps in to lend a hand.
Jackson's non-musical stage credits include the benefit readings of 8 and The Normal Heart, as well as Nicky Silver’s The Agony and the Agony off-Broadway. His Broadway credits include All Shook Up, Finian's Rainbow, Aida, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Xanadu. He has also appeared on TV's 30 Rock, Glee and Ugly Betty.
Winkler is best known for his role as Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli on the classic sitcom Happy Days. He has appeared on Broadway in The Dinner Party and 42 Seconds From Broadway. His other film and TV credits include Arrested Development, Royal Pains, Up All Night, The Waterboy, Little Nicky and Click.
The Performers will feature set design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, costume design by Jessica Wegener Shay and sound design by Nevin Steinberg. Robyn Goodman, Scott M. Delman and Amanda Lipitz will produce.
