Olivier and Tony Award winner Frances de la Tour has signed on to star in Alan Bennett’s new play People, according to The Daily Mail. Directed by the National Theatre's artistic director Nicholas Hytner, the show will mark Bennett’s seventh drama to play the esteemed London venue. Joining de la Tour will be Peter Egan, Linda Bassett, Nicholas Le Prevost and Selina Cadell. People will open at the National’s Lyttelton Theatre in October.
Frances de la Tour is a three-time Olivier Award winner for Duet for One, A Moon for the Misbegotten and When She Danced. She won a 2006 Tony Award for Bennett’s The History Boys. Her film and TV credits include Rising Damp, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows- Part 1, Hugo and Alice and Wonderland. In 2009, she appeared in Alan Bennett’s play The Habit of Art at the National.
Bennett won the 2005 Olivier Award and 2006 Best Play Tony Award for his drama The History Boys, which also premiered at the National Theatre. His other plays for the National include Wind In The Willows, An Englishman Abroad, A Question Of Attribution, The Madness Of King George and The Habit Of Art.
