Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy will receive the 2012 International Emmy Founders Award, according to Deadline.com. The Founders Award recognizes an individual who crosses cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity. Murphy will receive this special honor at the 40th International Emmy Awards Gala on November 9. The 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 23.
Murphy is the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning creator, writer and director of the hit TV series Glee, American Horror Story, Nip/Tuck and Popular. He has been nominated for a total of seven Emmys and won Best Direction of a Comedy Series for Glee. Collectively, his shows have been nominated for 69 Emmy Awards over the past eight years. This year, Murphy’s American Horror Story is tied for the most nominated Emmy series with 17 nominations.
Murphy’s upcoming projects include the big screen adaptation of Larry Kramer’s Tony-winning play The Normal Heart starring Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer and Mark Ruffalo and the upcoming NBC sitcom The New Normal, starring Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha and Ellen Barkin.
