Broadway veteran Lynn Cohen has joined the cast of the second Hunger Games film Catching Fire, according to Examiner.com. Cohen will play Mags, an 80-year-old former Hunger Games champion from District 4.
Based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games centers on teen heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who uses her skills as a hunter to outwit competitors in a post-apocalyptic death match. The first film in the trilogy opened to huge worldwide box office receipts earlier this year.
Cohen has appeared on Broadway in Ivanov and Orpheus Descending. Her off-Broadway credits include Chasing Manet, Macbeth, The Golem, Paradise Island, The Knee Desires the Dirt, The Devils, The Model Apartment and Hamlet. Her film and TV credits include Munich, Sex and the City and Synecdoche, NY.
Catching Fire will also star Broadway veterans Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amanda Plummer. The film is set to hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
