The upcoming Broadway premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella will play the Broadway Theatre beginning January 21, 2013. Starring Laura Osnes (Bonnie & Clyde) in the title role and Santino Fontana (Sons of the Prophet) as Prince Topher, the musical will officially open on February 21.
Cinderella was originally made for TV in 1957 and starred Oscar winner Julie Andrews. Directed by Mark Brokaw, the new production is slated to feature modern-twists by book writer Douglas Carter Beane, as well as additional Rodgers and Hammerstein songs that were cut from other musicals, including “Now is the Time” (South Pacific) and “I’ve Lived and I’ve Loved” (The Sound of Music).
In addition to Osnes and Fontana, the cast will also feature Tony winner Victoria Clark (Sister Act) as Marie the fairy godmother and Tony winner Harriet Harris (Thoroughly Modern Millie) as the stepmother Madame. Ann Harada (Avenue Q) and Marla Mindelle (Sister Act) will play the stepsisters Charlotte and Gabrielle, respectively. Peter Bartlett (The Drowsy Chaperone) will take on the role of Sebastian and Greg Hildreth (Peter and the Starcatcher) will play the rebel Jean-Michel. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The production will feature choreography by Josh Rhodes, music adaptation, supervision and arrangements by David Chase, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Nevin Steinberg. Cinderella will be produced by Robyn Goodman, Stephen Kocis, Jill Furman and Center Theatre Group.
