Denis O'Hare, Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Cerveris and the cast of the 2004 Tony-winning revival of Assassins are set to reunite for a one-night-only benefit performance of the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman musical. The event, which benefits the Roundabout Theatre Company, will take place on December 3 at Studio 54. Joe Mantello will once again direct the musical.
Featuring music and lyrics by Sondheim and a book by Weidman, the revue style musical chronicles the stories of the various people who have attempted (both successfully and not) to murder U.S. presidents. In addition to O'Hare (Charles Guiteau), Harris (Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald) and Cerveris (John Wilkes Booth), the revival cast also features Becky Ann Baker (Sara Jane Moore), James Barbour (Leon Czolgosz), Mario Cantone (Samuel Byck), Mary Catherine Garrison (Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme), Alexander Gemignani (John Hinckley), Marc Kudisch (Proprietor) and Jeffrey Kuhn (Giuseppe Zangara)
Assassins opened at Studio 54 on April 22, 2004 and ran for 101 performances. The production earned five Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and a featured acting award for Cerveris. Click below to watch the cast perform "Everybody's Got the Right" at the 2004 Tony Awards.
