The Chichester Festival Theatre's stage adapation of the classic children’s book Goodnight Mister Tom will play the West End’s Phoenix Theatre for a limited nine-week run. The play, adapted by David Wood and directed by Angus Jackson, will star Olivier Award winner Oliver Ford Davies as Mister Tom. Following the West End engagement, the show will tour the U.K. Goodnight Mister Tom will begin performances on November 22 , with an official opening scheduled for November 27. No further casting has been announced.
Based on Michelle Magorian’s book, Goodnight Mister Tom is set during the dark and dangerous time before World World II. The story follows William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and builds a remarkable and moving friendship with the elderly recluse Tom Oakley. All seems perfect until William is summoned back to London by his mother.
Davies' film and TV credits include Mrs. Dalloway, The Deep Blue Sea, Sense and Sensibility and Game of Thrones. He won the Olivier Award for Racing Demon, and was nominated two additionaly times for Absolutely! and Hamlet.
After its West End run, Goodnight Mister Tom will play the Manchester Opera House, Sunderland Empire, Milton Keynes Theatre, Brighton Theatre Royal, York Grand Opera House, Woking New Victoria Theatre, Southend Palace Theatre, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, Glasgow King’s Theatre and Birmingham Alexandra.
