Daisy Eagan, who won a Tony Award for Secret Garden at the age of 11, made Broadway history by being the youngest female actress to win the prestigious honor. Now 21 years later, Eagan is all grown up and has gained a devoted following for her distinct and hilarious presence on Twitter. On September 17, Eagan will bring her brutally funny new solo show Daisy Eagan: F@¢k Off. I Love You to the popular downtown venue Joe’s Pub. Below, Eagan talks about it all from Sesame Street to her unique way of dealing with divorce. Read on for a Music Mix you won’t soon forget!
What record/album was your favorite growing up?
Free to Be You and Me and Sesame Street Sings the Alphabet. Recently I saw Snow White again for the first time in years, and I suddenly remembered listening to that record over and over again, too.
What musical theater track is the most played on your iPod?
Last fall I lost my iPod. This is a very sore subject for me.
What musical theater performer from the past do you wish you can collaborate with?
Madeline Kahn.
What album was the soundtrack to your 20s?
Generally I try not to think about my 20s. Do you remember yourself in your 20s? Would you hang out with that guy? Yikes. That said, if I had to pick one album from that lost decade it would have to be Alison Krauss and Union Station’s Now That I Found You. Her cover of The Beatles’ “I Will” is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. It was my “first dance” at my wedding. Incidentally, I totally divorced that guy...
What's your favorite love song?
Despite its connotation with that dude I married (like a moron), it would still be “I Will.” If I ever had a kid I would probably sing that to it right after it came out of me. I wouldn’t sound great because of all the screaming I had just done, but the kid wouldn’t know any better. Sucker. (Side note: I am not planning on having children. They poop themselves and get food everywhere and then they become teenagers. Really inconsiderate.)
What song makes you feel sexy?
“Closer” by Nine Inch Nails.
What's the best hidden gem in on your iPod?
Look, I already told you I lost my iPod last fall. Why did you have to bring it up again?
Favorite break-up song?
I can’t say I have a favorite break-up song. That would be a lie. I will say that when I left my husband I would listen to every Radiohead album released by 2005 (except Pablo Honey, because, come on.) and drink bottles of wine while weeping copiously in my bathtub in my shitty one bedroom apartment in Hollywood with the tranny hookers on the corner and the homeless lady who had taken up residence on a discarded mattress in front of my apartment building and who would masturbate in broad daylight. I always wondered if she was embarrassed, but honestly, she seemed to be doing better than I was.
Also, Alison Krauss’ “Let Me Touch You For A While” is KILLER.
What song most makes you smile?
Oh, there are so many. There’s no way I could choose. What pops to mind immediately is “What A Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers, “Nice Dream” by Radiohead, “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, “Julia” by The Beatles. Also, there’s this really awesome YouTube video I watch when I’m really depressed that usually puts a little pep in my step. It’s some Dutch children’s show song that someone put phonetic English subtitles on. It’s brilliant and I’m angry I didn’t do it first. WARNING: There’s dirty language in it....
When this song plays, I can't help but dance:
I can guarantee you, you never want to see me dance.
