Nikki Blonsky, who made a name for herself as Tracy Turnblad in the 2007 movie adaptation of Hairspray, has joined the cast of NBC’s Broadway dramedy Smash, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Though the details on Blonsky’s role are mum, the Golden Globe nominee joins an all-star line-up of Smash newcomers. Stage and screen stars Jeremy Jordan, Jennifer Hudson, Sean Hayes, Krysta Rodriguez, Andy Mientus, Daniel Sunjata, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jesse L. Martin have all joined the cast for the show’s upcoming second season, which will premiere in early 2013.
In additon to the Hairspray film, Blonsky has appeared off-Broadway in Love, Loss and What I Wore and starred on the ABC Family series Huge. Her other screen credits include Waiting for Forever, Ugly Betty and Valemont.
