Modern Family star and Broadway alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson proposed to his boyfriend, lawyer Justin Mikita…and he said yes! “It’s true, I popped the big Q,” Ferguson said in an adorable video the couple created for their new organization, Tie the Knot. To celebrate their forthcoming wedding, Ferguson and Mikita will sell bowties (including one inspired by a bust of Liza Minnelli!) to raise funds for gay and lesbian Americans fighting for civil rights.
“The definition of marriage cannot be disputed. It’s right there in black and white, and it’s been the same since the start of Wikipedia,” Ferguson joked in the Tie the Knot video. “We want our interpersonal relationship to be acknowledged in a union formalized by a wedding ceremony. But we’re just like millions of Americans who are denied the basic civil rights to marry the person that we love.”
Ferguson appeared on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and On the Town. His off-Broadway credits include The Winter's Tale, A MIdsummer's Night Dream, Where Do We Live? and Little Fish. He is best known as Mitchell Pritchett on TV's Modern Family, for which he has earned three Emmy nominations. Ferguson’s additional film and TV credits include Ugly Betty, Do Not Disturb, The Class, Untraceable and Ordinary Sinner.
