Watch out stagehands. Kirstie Alley has been tapped to play a high-maintenance Broadway star in a new TV Land presentation (think pilot, but cheaper) Giant Baby, according to The Washington Post.
The former Cheers actress and two-time Dancing with the Stars contestant will play a theater diva who finds her 26-year-old son (whom she gave up for adoption) on her doorstep after his adoptive mother passes away. The project’s pick-up hinges on the casting of the role of the son, who is described as “nerdy and schlubby.”
The Emmy-winning actress was rumored to land on Broadway in The Fabulous Lies of Hollywood Whores earlier this year, but the production never made it to New York. Giant Baby would be Alley’s return to scripted leading TV lady status after her self-aware Showtime series Fat Actress in 2005. Alley’s screen credits include Veronica’s Closet, Look Who’s Talking, Deconstructing Harry and Drop Dead Gorgeous.
