Kenny Leon’s remake of Steel Magnolias was a big ratings win for Lifetime Television as the made-for-TV movie drew 6.5 million viewers and became Lifetime’s third-most-watched original telecast ever. The film also earned the title of most-watched two-hour cable movie since 2007.
Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six Louisiana-based women who congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children. The remaked features Oscar nominee Queen Latifa as M'Lynn, Tony nominee Condola Rashad as Shelby, Tony winner Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Emmy winner Alfre Woodard as Ouiser, Grammy winner Jill Scott as Truvy and Pariah star Adepero Oduye as Annelle.
