The previously reported West End revival of Harold Pinter’s Old Times, starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Rufus Sewell and Lia Williams, will begin performances at the Harold Pinter Theatre on January 12, 2013. Opening night is set for January 31, and the production is scheduled to run through April 6.
Each night Scott Thomas and Williams will reportedly swap roles with no set schedule, and their co-star Sewell may not know which actress is playing which role until the curtain goes up. Old Times will also be the first of Pinter’s plays to be performed in the newly renamed theatre.
Set in a farmhouse, Old Times is the story of married couple Deeley (Sewell) and Kate (Scott Thomas/Williams), who prepare for the visit of Kate’s old roommate and friend Anna (Scott Thomas/Williams). The couple hasn’t seen Anna in 20 years. Locked away in the secluded farmhouse, the friends reminisce about their early days together in London, but with conflicting memories and underlying sexual tensions.
Old Times is directed by Ian Rickson, designed by Hildegard Bechtler, with lighting by Peter Mumford and sound by Paul Groothuis.
