Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar is currently touring the U.K. in an arena extravaganza—and moviegoers outside of Britain will be able to catch the biblical blowout when a film presentation of the musical hits stateside movie theaters this fall.
Jesus Christ Superstar U.K. Rock Spectacular will broadcast in select U.S. movie theaters on October 29 and November 1 at 7:30 PM local time, presented by Fathom Events, Omniverse Vision and the Broadway League.
“I have waited 42 years for Jesus Christ Superstar to play arenas in the U.K., and it is great to finally see the show as it was originally intended, as an arena rock opera,” said Lloyd Webber in a statement.
The event was recorded on October 4 and 5 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England. The arena spectacular’s cast includes West End comedian Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot, former Spice Girl Mel C as Mary Magdalene, radio DJ Chris Moyles as King Herod, Broadway vet Alexander Hanson as Pontius Pilate and U.K. reality star winner Ben Forster as Jesus. Forster was selected by the British public after appearing on an ITV talent show search.
The most recent U.S. mounting of Jesus Christ Superstar closed on Broadway in July 2012 and was nominated for two Tony Awards.
