Johnny Depp is developing a scripted TV series based on the plays of William Shakespeare, according to Deadline.com. The Oscar nominee's production company, Infinitum Nihil, is partnering with Scandinavian-based Yellow Bird Productions and writer-producer Tom Fontana to bring a modern take on the Bard's plays. The show will build on existing characters and plots from several of Shakespeare's most notable works.
Randall Fontana will write the project and Infinitum Nihil, which is run by Depp’s sister Christi Dembrowski, will executive produce along with Tom Fontana and Yellow Bird. Yellow Bird produced The Millennium trilogy, the original feature films based on Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo books.
Plenty of Shakespeare texts have already been adapted into modern movies like William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, O and 10 Things I Hate About You. We're excited to see what other works Depp might tackle!
