From stage to page! Bob Martin, Tony-winning co-writer and star of The Drowsy Chaperone, will develop a new half-hour comedy for ABC and Canada's Shaw Media alongside EntertainmentOne producer Noreen Halpern, according to Deadline.com. Martin and Halpern will both write and executive produce the series. No casting or air dates have been announced.
The new series will tell the story of a cartoonist who depicts an ideal married couple in his cartoons, but in his own life, grapples with his three ex-spouses, children from all three marriages and a current wife who earns a much larger salary than he does. After seeing his hilarious, neurotic performance as Man in Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone, we’ve got our fingers crossed that Martin himself will star as the cartoonist!
Martin made his Broadway debut in The Drowsy Chaperone, earning a Tony for Best Book of a Musical and an additional nomination for Best Actor. Martin also wrote the book for the musical Elf, which will be revived on Broadway this winter. His film and TV credits include Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Puppets Who Kill, Slings and Arrows and Northern Town.
