Oscar and Tony nominee Anna Kendrick may play Cathy in the upcoming film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, according to Moviehole.net. Richard LaGravenese (The Bridges of Madison County, Water for Elephants) will adapt and direct the big screen musical. No word yet on who will play Jamie or when the film will begin production.
The Last Five Years tells the emotional story of Jamie and Cathy (Kendrick), two twenty-something New Yorkers who dive head-first into a marriage fueled by the optimism that comes with finding “the one.” But in a city where professional and personal passions collide and only the strongest relationships survive, navigating the waters of love and matrimony can sometimes prove too much. Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott created the roles in the show's original off-Broadway production. A revival will play off-Broadway's Second Stage Theater in 2013.
Kendrick received a Tony nomination at age 12 for her first acting role in the Broadway musical High Society. She went on to appear in the musical-themed movies Camp and Pitch Perfect. She earned an Oscar nomination for Up in the Air and has also appeared in The Twilight Saga and 50/50.
