Broadway’s favorite Vegas showgirl-turned-ballet-teacher is coming back this winter! Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster and her ballet students will return for season two of Bunheads beginning January 7, 2013 on ABC Family, according to TVLine.com. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, Bunheads stars Foster as Michelle Simms and Tony winner Kelly Bishop as her sharp-tongued mother-in-law, Fanny.
Bunheads tells the story of Michelle (Foster), a dysfunctional Vegas dancer who picks up and moves to Paradise, California, after impulsively getting married. When her new beau unexpectedly dies, Michelle must decide whether to stay in Paradise and teach at her mother-in-law’s dance studio, or move back to Las Vegas. In the series’ season one cliffhanger, Michelle leaves the dance studio after a disastrous recital. According to TVLine.com, (spoilers ahead!) “The new episodes pick up a couple of months after Michelle has left Paradise to try and return to her former life in Las Vegas.” We're hoping Michelle realizes her mistake and immediately books a flight back to California!
After earning Tony Awards for Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie, Bunheads marked the first leading TV role for Foster. She has earned additional Tony nominations for Shrek the Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone and Little Women.
