Playing to sold out crowds in Broadway's Glengarry Glen Ross should help Al Pacino prep for his next film, in which he'll play a famed rock star. Pacino has signed on to star in Imagine, a John Lennon-themed drama co-starring Jeremy Renner and Julianne Moore, according to Deadline.com.
Imagine follows an aging “sell-out” rocker from the ‘70s (Pacino) who, after discovering an undelivered letter written to his 19-year-old self from Lennon, tries to recapture the inspirational music he once set out to make. As he cleans up his act, he also attempts to reconnect with his estranged son (Renner) and befriends a New Jersey hotel manager (Moore).
The movie will begin filming in April 2013 and marks the directing debut for screenwriter Dan Fogelman, who also wrote the upcoming Barbra Streisand comedy Guilt Trip.
Pacino won Tony Awards for The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?, and received an additional nomination for The Merchant of Venice. His other Broadway credits include Salome, Hughie, Chinese Coffee, American Buffalo and King Richard III. His many film credits include The Godfather trilogy, Scent of a Woman, Heat, Serpico, Scarface, Angels in America, Insomnia, Any Given Sunday, The Insider and Donnie Brasco.
