Paper Mill Playhouse has found its Maria to watch over the von Trapp children in the theater's upcoming production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical masterpiece The Sound of Music. Elena Shaddow will play the nun turned nanny when the show runs from November 23 through December 30 in Millburn, New Jersey.
Joining Shaddow in the cast are Ben Davis as Captain Georg von Trapp, Edward Hibbert as Max and Chelsea Morgan Stock as Liesl. James Brennan will serve as director and choreographer.
Based on the true story of the von Trapp family, The Sound of Music is a tale of love and courage with iconic melodies like "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." The original Broadway production opened in 1959 and was adapted into a 1965 Academy Award-winning film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Elena Shaddow's Broadway credits include La Cage aux Follies and Nine. She appeared on the West End in Show Boat. Ben Davis has appeared on Broadway in A Little Night Music, Les Miserables, La Boheme and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Edward Hibbert appeared in Broadway's Mrs. Warren's Profession, Curtains, The Drowsy Chaperone and Noises Off. Chelsea Morgan Stocks's Broadway credits include Baby It's You and The Little Mermaid.
