Tony nominee Andrea McArdle will join off-Broadway's NEWSical the Musical. McArdle, who made history as Broadway’s original Annie in 1977, will lead NEWSical from November 14 through December 2. The ever-evolving news parody currently runs at Theatre Row’s Kirk Theatre.
NEWSical the Musical is the always changing, completely unsanitized musical mockery of all the news that’s fit to spoof. From Bloomberg’s sign language interpreter to Honey Boo Boo Child to the 2012 Presidential Election, NEWSical the Musical sets all of today’s biggest pop culture headlines to song. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton recently completed a limited run in the musical, and in the coming weeks, more celebrities, personalities and comedians will join the musical revue’s rotating cast.
McArdle is the youngest actress ever to be nominated for a Tony Award for Lead Actress in a Musical. In addition to Annie, McArdle has appeared in Starlight Express, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, State Fair and alongside Carol Channing and Leslie Uggams in the tour of Jerry’s Girls. She has appeared in the TV movies Rainbow and Annie. She recently headlined a new solo show 70s and Sunny at 54 Below.
Created by Rick Crom and directed by Mark Waldrop, NEWSical also features Christine Pedi, Michael West, Tommy Walker, Susan Mosher and Ryan Knowles.
