Disney recently aquired the rights to the Star Wars empire, and because the Mouse House is behind a few of Broadway's biggest musicals (Newsies, The Lion King and Mary Poppins, just to name a few!), we got a crazy idea: What if a Disney Star Wars musical came to the Great White Way? Broadway.com reached out to our readers to find out who they would like cast in the role of Luke Skywalker. The votes are in! Find out which Broadway vets fans hope become Jedi Knights on stage below.
1. Aaron Tveit - 24%
Tveit is about to take on sword-bearing revolutionary Enjrolas in the new Les Miserables film—so imagining him wielding a lightsaber as well isn't a stretch! The heartthrob has appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Next to Normal and Catch Me If You Can, and has made TV audiences swoon as Tripp on Gossip Girl.
2. Jonathan Groff - 21%
Groff has a tendency for playing bad boys like Spring Awakening's Melchoir (for which he earned a Tony nod) and Glee's former Vocal Adrenaline leader Jesse St. James, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to battle the dark side. Plus he would totally look adorable in a Jedi robe.
3. Skylar Astin - 15%
Astin, who starred alongside Groff in Spring Awakening, has recently gained national attention for his guest appearance on HBO’s Girls. In the new film Pitch Perfect, Astin shows off his dancing moves, so fans know he’d be fast on his feet dodging Storm Troopers, navigating Tatooine or racing through the swamps of Dagobah.
