The York Theatre Company will present a one-night-only performance of the 1976 off-Broadway revue Starting Here, Starting Now, reuniting original cast members Loni Ackerman, Margery Cohen and George Lee Andrews. The performance will be held on December 2 at Saint Peter’s Church.
Richard Maltby Jr., who wrote the lyrics to the revue with composer David Shire, will direct the production. Kevin Stites will serve as musical director. Starting Here, Starting Now uses songs from the composing team's previous musicals to tell various stories about young love, growing up and the jumbled nature of relationships.
Ackerman (Cats, Evita), Cohen (Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill) and Andrews (Phantom of the Opera) starred in the first run of the revue, which debuted at Manhattan Theater Club in 1976. After that production, the show transferred to Barbarann Theater Restaurant before earning a Grammy Award nomination for its original cast album.
