Saturday Night Live alum Cher Oteri will join the cast of off-Broadway’s NEWSical the Musical from December 3 through December 30. The ever-evolving news parody continues to run at Theatre Row’s Kirk Theatre.
Oteri starred on Saturday Night Live from 1995-2000. Her many memorable SNL characters included Arianna (one half of The Spartan Cheerleaders), Rita DelVecchio (the Italian lady who policed the street from her front yard), overly perk and ill-informed Morning Latte talk show host Cass Van Rye and Nadine (a testy employee who constantly ordered everyone to “Simma down now!”) Oteri was also known for her dead-on impressions of Barbara Walters, Mariah Carey, Robin Byrd and Judge Judy.
NEWSical the Musical is the always changing, completely unsanitized musical mockery of all the news that’s fit to spoof. From Bloomberg’s sign language interpreter to Honey Boo Boo Child to the aftermath of the 2012 Presidential Election, NEWSical the Musical sets all of today’s biggest pop culture headlines to song. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton recently completed a limited run in the musical, and Broadway’s original Annie, Andrea McArdle, will join the production November 14 through December 2.
