The presidential election may be over, but the race for the White House is just beginning on HBO's The Newsroom. Smash veteran Grace Gummer will join the TV drama's second season as Hallie Shea, an embedded reporter covering the Mitt Romney campaign, according to Deadline.
Created by Aaron Sorkin, The Newsroom stars Jeff Daniels and focuses on the inner workings of a fictional cable news program. The series tackled a number of real news events during its first season, taking a fictional approach on how global news stories might be approached from a cable news perspective. The second season will focus primarily on the recent presidential election. The series features a number of stage veterans including John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill and Thomas Sadoski.
Gummer appeared on Broadway in The Columnist and Arcadia. Her TV and film credits include Larry Crowne, Gigantic and Margin Call. She is also set to appear as an FBI agent on the upcoming series Zero Hour.
