Get your pocket protectors ready! Diana DeGarmo, Leslie Kritzer and Darren Ritchie are set to star in the pre-Broadway run of Nerds, A New Musical Comedy at North Carolina Theatre’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Featuring a book and lyrics by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner and music by Hal Goldberg, Nerds will be directed by Marc Bruni. The production will run from January 18, 2013 through February 2.
In addition to DeGarmo as Sally, Kritzer as Myrtle and Ritchie as Steve Jobs, Nerds stars Stanley Bahorek as Bill Gates, Benny Elledge as Steve Wozniak, Rob Morrison as Paul Allen, James Moye as Tom Watson, Matt Wilson as Herbert and Cole Escola as Dustin. Nerds tells the story of the rise of computer technology and the two men that made it all possible—Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. The production follows the founding fathers of personal computing as they transform from nerds to billionaires.
Best known as a season three runner-up on TV’s American Idol, DeGarmo’s Broadway credits include Hairspray and Hair. Her film and TV credits include The Young and the Restless and The Fairly OddParents. Kritzer is currently starring as Jovie in Elf on Broadway. Her additional Broadway credits include Sondheim on Sondheim, A Catered Affair, Legally Blonde and Hairspray. Ritchie has appeared on Broadway in Wonderland, Dracula, the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Bells Are Ringing and Les Miserables.
