A concept album of horror writer Stephen King and rocker John Mellencamp's musical The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County will be released on March 19, 2013, according to The Onion’s A.V. Club. The album features performances by artists including Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, Mellencamp himself and more.
King and Mellencamp plan to launch a future production that will reportedly star Kristofferson, Costello, Meg Ryan, Samantha Mathis and Matthew McConaughey. A presentation of the musical took place in New York City in July, following a production at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre in April. The Georgia production starred Emily Skinner, Shuler Hensley and Justin Guarini.
Set in 1967, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County tells the story of a tragedy that haunts a small town in Mississippi. Featuring a book by King and music and lyrics by Mellencamp, the Southern gothic tale is full of mystery, haunting tragedy and ghosts from the past.
The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County album track list includes “That’s Me,” “How Many Days,” “That’s Who I Am,” “You Are Blind,” “Home Again,” “You Don’t Know Me,” “Tear This Cabin Down,” “Jukin,” “What Kind of Man Am I,” “So Goddamn Good,” “Truth” and more.
