Casting Complete for Flashdance Tour, Starring Emily Padgett & Matthew Hydzik
Full casting has been announced for the national tour of Flashdance, which will launch on January 1, 2013 at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the city where the musical takes place. In addition to previously announced stars Emily Padgett, Rachelle Rak and Matthew Hydzik, the cast will also feature Kelly Felthous as Gloria, DeQuina Moore as Kiki, Jo Ann Cunningham as Hannah, David R. Gordon as Jimmy, Matthew Henerson as Harry and Christian Whelan as C.C.
Also joining the company are Holly Ann Butler, Claire Camp, Derek Carley, Ryan Carlson, Natalie Caruncho, Lynorris Evans, Thursday Farrar, Charlene Hoffman, Holly Laurent, Jakob Karr, Dan Kohler, Brandt Martinez, Nicholas McGough, Ariela Morgenstern, Rebecca Riker, Andrea Spiridonakos and Lawrence Street. The production will play Pittsburgh January 6 before heading to St. Louis, New Orleans, Nashville, Seattle, Dallas and other cities. As previously announced, a Broadway production of the musical is also in the works to bow in August 2013.
Directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis), the musical features a score by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary and a book by Cary and Tom Hedley. Flashdance is the story of Alex Owens (Padgett), a working-class girl striving to make her dreams of becoming a professional dancer a reality. She works by day at a steel mill, where she catches the eye of her boss Nick Hurley (Hydzik). By night she works as a “flashdancer” at a local bar, but longs to become a student at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. The musical will feature hits from the original film’s Grammy-winning soundtrack, including “Flashdance—What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” "I Love Rock & Roll," “Gloria,” as well as 10 original songs.
