Broadway's buffest bods are already preparing to show off their assets in the new year. Broadway Bares, the popular annual striptease fundraiser produced by and benefitting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will kick off its 23rd season on January 27, 2013 with Broadway Bares: Winter Burlesque at XL Nightclub. The main performance of the burlesque bonanza, Broadway Bares 23, is then scheduled for June 23 at the Roseland Ballroom.
Broadway Bares combines the naughtiness of burlesque and the razzle-dazzle of Broadway as a slew of theater actors perform naughty numbers in a fully staged extravaganza. This year's theme, director and special guests will be announced in the spring. The 2013 Bares season will continue with Broadway Bares: Solo Strips in May and Broadway Bares: Fire Island in early June.
Last year's Broadway Bares: Happy Endings raised a record-breaking $1,254,176, the highest total of any edition of Bares. Broadway Bares was created in 1992 by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), who also serves as executive producer. To date, the 22 editions of Broadway Bares have raised more than $9.8 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
